Automatically reconnect gps after reception is lost
I’ve been using the software over “extended periods of time” (hours at a time and over several weeks of travelling) as an in-car installation. As the driver, you find that you have to have a dedicated navigator along with you. That person does two things: 1) Watches where you are going in Google Earth, and 2) Keeps a keen eye on the Earth Bridge GPS status (satellite status). Then every 10-30 minutes when the application looses contact with gps reception, the navigator has to restart the whole setup. This is, of course, not optimal. The software should be a bit… more

This will absolutely be implemented. It is at the top of the list. Better handling of the serial connection as a whole is way, way up there as a priority.

Add GE cache file swapper tool
If you have filled up the cache and want to scan some more then you have to swap out the cache file. You would have to put it into a subdirectory with a descriptive name but without changing the filename of the cache file. Then when you need that data you can swap out the cache file. Using some rectangular US states as examples, let’s say you have scanned Colorado into one cache file and New Mexico into another, then, once you cross the border between the two states you would just have to swap out the cache file to… more

Build in a GE caching robot
You are most likely familiar with Google Earth Voyager (http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/765630/Main/765630) – This software is really useful for caching whole regions in Google Earth. You basically define a square you want scanned by giving it 1) the gps coordinates of the top left (NW) corner; 2) how many km East and South you want it to go; 3) from how high up it should fly over the area; 4) how far the viewpoint should move each time it takes a snapshot; 5) how long it should wait before moving on to the next snapshot. This basic functionality would be… more

If possible, time information in kml file to playback later
To make it possible to play your track in Ge with time data, that you can see when you been at some place

I have to look at the exact KML needed to do this, but I’ve wanted the track saved to have the option of being able to be like the tracks you import off a GPS device directly into Google Earth.

Continously save all tracks
Make track information persistent and resilient to application crashes or restarts. The track data stream that the application generates should not just disappear every time something happens with the application. Ideally, you should be able to turn on Earth Bridge and just leave it on for days, confident that every move is being safely stored. When you’ve just mapped out a cool off-road route it’s really sad to see all the track data just disappear.

This was actually requested by Cisco Networks about a year and a half ago. The current plan is to have quite a few options on how to handle saving the track information. For example, there will be new options to continue appending to a previously recorded track file, start a new track file each time Earth Bridge is started (leaving the old one intact), create new track files automatically for each new day, and so on. These same options will also be available to how it saves NMEA log files.

Add a GPS reception status widget
You’ve already put an “Earth Bridge Remote Control” screenshot on your website as an upcoming feature. What would be really useful is to have a very tiny status widget that can stay on top all the time and just shows GPS reception status so you know you’re still receiving. I’ve ended up going past key waypoints many times because I thought there was still some way to go untill the GE marker, but in fact the pointer was just frozen. Of course it you could combine the tiny status widget with your remote control it would be truly useful.

This is coming up in a feature called “overlays” where you define what information you want displaying as an overlay (or a sort of heads-up-display) in Google Earth itself. Currently planned is to have basic GPS status info like connection status, satellites, and precision of fix. Possibly I’ll add speed, but we’ll see.

Add option to send serial port init commands
It would be nice to have an option to send any custom commands to GPS port before actual data receiving begins
Try to imagine situation where data comes from mobile phone data call and mobile phone modem is the COM port.
So the minimum amount of info I need to give to modem is:
AT+FCLASS=0 to set phone in data mode
ATS0=1 so that the phone will automatically pick up the data callNow, when incoming data call is detected, the modem automatically picks up the call in data mode and GPS data can be received in Earth Bridge.

Automate the viewing height based on speed.
It should be an option to have the viewing height change as you speed up and slow down. It should be close down when you are going slow and far up when you are going fast.

This is being implemented. It won’t just be a simple checkbox to turn it on and off, though. You will be able to choose the rate at which it changes. For instance, the height vs speed change being linear, exponential, etc. You will also be able to set a minimum and maximum height.

get time continuosly from gps
I would like to have an option that Earth Bridge shows time in sub-seconds unit. I also would like to have another option that the program syncronize PC time with GPS.

Configurable number of track points per km or second
After long journeys the KML file and the track shown in GE seem to become unwieldy for GE to handle, sometimes flickering and even disappearing. Also the number of points are not necessary. It would therefore be great if you could add an ability to set the number of track points you want Earth Bridge to store for every measure of distance (meters) or time (minutes:seconds)

Modify tracking behaviour when the GPS is standing still
Earth Bridge should be able to detect when you're not moving (e.g. when each updated gps coordinate is within some limit of precision).
Currently, when you're standing still the View Direction (when set to Follow) will jump around in every direction. The View Direction should be made to stabilise at the last known real direction of movement.
Also, the track points should not be stored when in the same location.4 votes -
share gps coordinates over TCP/IP
It would be very nice to have ability to share GPS coordinates over internet with another computer, which would have also Earth bridge installed. In that case, it would be possible to see the location of the GPS device from a remote system.

Resilience to waking up from PC sleep mode
Using the software on a PC in a vehicle means that operation should be as keyboard free as possible and the application should be able to wake up and reconnect after the PC has been in sleep mode. Unfortunately the current version crashes after sleep mode, and you have to get the keyboard out and restart it manually. Crash error signature is: Event Type:clr20r3 P1: earthbridge.exe P2: 0.9.4.34 P3:43e287f9 P4: system P5: 2.0.0.0 P6:471ebf0d P7: 3bc0 P8: b5 P9:system.objectdisposedexception

When walking a trail, it would be great to display GE tour placemarks on handheld GPS phones(docent)
We are making GE5 tours with points of interest along the trails. It would be great if you could use the real time GPS Location aware capability to display the tour balloons when you get within 200 ft of the point on the trail. This would be a hand held trail docent. A fabulous education tool. Also could combine with Google Latitude to see friends on trail.
